Mathieu Maertens

Mathieu Maertens is a Belgian midfielder born in Leuven on 27 March 1995. He developed at Sporting Keiem before joining the Cercle Brugge academy, where he made his senior debut against KV Kortrijk on 29 March 2014. Between 2014 and 2017, Maertens recorded 66 league appearances and six goals for Cercle Brugge, gaining experience across midfield during the club’s spell in the second tier. In July 2017, he returned to his hometown by signing for OH Leuven. Initially operating as a box-to-box midfielder, he helped OH Leuven secure promotion and scored nine goals in 29 appearances during the 2019/20 season. Maertens later produced his strongest recorded top-flight return in 2021/22, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists. His career at OH Leuven has combined late runs into the box with midfield versatility and defensive work.
