Matthew Ben Longstaff

Matthew Ben Longstaff is an English midfielder, born in Rotherham on 21 March 2000, who plays with his right foot. He developed in the Newcastle United academy after progressing through youth football in North Shields. Longstaff made his Premier League debut in October 2019 against Manchester United, playing centrally alongside his brother Sean and scoring in a 1-0 victory. That strike earned him Premier League Goal of the Month recognition and established him as an energetic midfielder willing to press and shoot from distance. After loan spells and changing opportunities, an ACL injury disrupted his Newcastle progression before the club released him in 2023. He rebuilt his career in North America, joining Toronto FC in February 2024 and later moving to CF Montréal in August 2025. At Montréal, Longstaff has continued developing as a deeper midfielder, helping recycle possession, set tempo and screen the defence.
