Matěj Kovář

Matěj Kovář is a Czech goalkeeper born on 17 May 2000 in Uherské Hradiště. He began his development at 1. FC Slovácko before joining Manchester United’s academy in January 2018. Kovář gained senior experience on loan at Swindon Town in 2020–21, making 21 appearances, before later spending time at Burton Albion in 2022. In 2022–23, he joined Sparta Prague on loan and helped the club win the Czech First League title, earning the division’s Goalkeeper of the Season award. In August 2023, Bayer Leverkusen signed Kovář, who served primarily as a cup goalkeeper during the club’s unbeaten domestic campaign, featuring in the DFB-Pokal and Europa League. In July 2025, he moved permanently to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Internationally, Kovář represented Czech Republic youth teams, made his senior debut against Armenia in March 2024, and was included in the squad for Euro 2024.
