Matei Cristian Ilie

Matei Cristian Ilie is a Romanian defender born in Piatra Neamț on 11 December 2002. He developed in Romania before moving to Italy, where he joined Calcio Padova in 2019. Ilie continued his education with a loan to Hellas Verona during the 2020–21 season, gaining experience in the Italian system. With Padova, he won the Coppa Italia Serie C in the 2021–22 campaign. In September 2023, he returned to Romania to sign for CFR Cluj, adding top-flight and European experience to his career. A central defender, Ilie has been described as a physically strong player whose left-footed distribution can help build attacks from the back. He has also represented Romania at under-21 level, marking his progression through the national-team pathway.
