Marcel Hartel

Marcel Hartel is a German midfielder born in Köln on 19 January 1996. He developed in the 1. FC Köln academy, joining as a six-year-old and progressing through its youth teams before making his Bundesliga debut in February 2016. Seeking regular senior football, Hartel later moved to Union Berlin, where he contributed to the club’s 2019 promotion to the Bundesliga. In July 2019, he joined Arminia Bielefeld and helped them win promotion to the top flight the following season. During that campaign, Hartel shared the second division’s assist lead with 11 assists, underlining his value as a creative, hard-working midfielder. He subsequently spent three seasons with St. Pauli, becoming an important attacking contributor and taking on greater responsibility in possession. On 2 July 2024, Hartel signed for St. Louis City, continuing a career built on progression, chance creation and midfield versatility.
