Maren Haile-Selassie

Maren Haile-Selassie is a Swiss midfielder born in Zürich on 13 March 1999. He joined the FC Zürich academy at seven and progressed through the club’s youth teams before making his professional debut in July 2017. Loans to Rapperswil-Jona, Neuchâtel Xamax and FC Wil between 2019 and 2021 broadened his experience. Haile-Selassie established himself at Neuchâtel Xamax, scoring five goals in 17 appearances during a permanent spell in 2021. His performances earned him a move to FC Lugano, where he helped the club win the 2021–22 Swiss Cup and scored in the 4–1 final victory over St. Gallen. He moved to Chicago Fire on loan in late 2022, finishing the 2023 MLS season as the club’s leading scorer with six goals. Chicago Fire subsequently made the move permanent, and Haile-Selassie remains part of the club’s squad.
