Marvin Friedrich

Marvin Friedrich is a German defender born in Kassel on 13 December 1995. He developed at FSC Guxhagen and OSC Vellmar before joining SC Paderborn in 2010 and FC Schalke 04’s academy in 2011. Friedrich made his Bundesliga debut for Schalke in September 2014, then moved to FC Augsburg in 2016. After a difficult spell there, he joined Union Berlin in January 2018 and became a central figure in their rise. He scored with a header in the 2019 relegation play-off against VfB Stuttgart as Union secured its first Bundesliga promotion. At Union, Friedrich also established himself as a set-piece threat and defensive leader, helping the club consolidate in the top flight and reach European competition. He transferred to Borussia Mönchengladbach in January 2022, adding Bundesliga experience and a 1.93-metre frame suited to aerial duels and penalty-area defending.
