Marco Friedl

Marco Friedl is an Austrian defender who began as a left-back and has also developed into a left-sided or central defender. Born in Kirchbichl, he started at SV Kirchbichl before joining FC Kufstein in 2007 and Bayern München’s youth academy in 2008. At Bayern, Friedl helped the under-19 side win the A-Junioren Bundesliga Süd/Südwest title in 2016–17 and signed a professional contract in 2017. He made his senior Bayern debut in the Champions League against Anderlecht in November 2017, followed days later by his Bundesliga debut against Borussia Mönchengladbach. In January 2018, he moved to Werder Bremen on loan, and the transfer became permanent in 2019. Friedl remained with Bremen through relegation and their 2021–22 promotion campaign, scoring four goals that season. He became club captain in 2022 and made his Austria debut in October 2020.
