Maximilian Eggestein

Maximilian Eggestein is a German midfielder born in Hannover on December 8, 1996. He began playing at TSV Schloß Ricklingen and TSV Havelse before joining Werder Bremen’s academy in 2011. Eggestein progressed through Bremen’s youth system and made his Bundesliga debut in November 2014. Initially developed as an attacking midfielder, he later moved into a deeper, more defensive role. His breakthrough came under Florian Kohfeldt, with five Bundesliga goals in the 2018–19 season and a Germany senior call-up in March 2019. He was an unused substitute for the senior team but helped Germany’s under-21 side reach the 2019 European Championship final. After Bremen’s relegation in 2021, Eggestein joined SC Freiburg, where he has continued as a disciplined central midfielder, contributing positional discipline, safe circulation and defensive coverage.
