Mio Backhaus

Mio Backhaus is a German goalkeeper born in Mönchengladbach on 16 April 2004. Standing 1.94 metres tall, he developed in the Werder Bremen system after joining the club in 2018. Backhaus gained senior experience in the Netherlands during a 2023/24 loan to FC Volendam, making 33 Eredivisie appearances and recording 176 saves. He returned to Bremen in July 2024 and later made his Bundesliga debut against Eintracht Frankfurt on 23 August 2025. As a goalkeeper, Backhaus combines shot-stopping with a proactive approach, coming off his line to deal with through-balls and contributing to build-up play. He has represented Germany from the youth levels through the Germany Under-21 side, following earlier involvement with Japan’s Under-15 team.
