Lisandro Martínez
Lisandro Martínez is an Argentine centre-back known for his left-footed distribution and aggressive defending. Born in Gualeguay, he developed at local clubs before joining Newell’s Old Boys in 2014, where he made his professional debut in 2017. Later that year, Martínez moved on loan to Defensa y Justicia, where his ball-playing qualities emerged. In 2019, he transferred to Ajax, becoming a versatile defender who also operated at defensive midfield and left-back. At Ajax, he won two Eredivisie titles, in 2020–21 and 2021–22, plus the KNVB Cup, and received the Rinus Michels Award in 2021–22. Martínez joined Manchester United in 2022, reuniting with Erik ten Hag and bringing line-breaking passing and front-foot defending to the Premier League. He has also represented Argentina as part of a golden international period that includes the 2022 World Cup and Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024.
