Leonidas Stergiou

Leonidas Stergiou is a Swiss centre-back who developed in the St. Gallen region and has also operated at right-back. He began at FC Wattwil, continued with FC Wil 1900, and joined FC St. Gallen’s academy in 2015. Stergiou made his professional debut for St. Gallen aged 16 in February 2019, appearing in a 3–1 victory. He became a regular in the club’s defence and was named Swiss Super League Young Footballer of the Year for 2020–21. In August 2023, he moved to VfB Stuttgart on loan, broke into the starting line-up in February 2024, and helped the team secure Champions League qualification. Stergiou scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 3–1 victory over Bayern Munich on 4 May 2024, after which Stuttgart made his move permanent. He has represented Switzerland, debuted for the senior team in 2022, and captained the under-21 side at the 2023 European Championship.
