Liam Scales
Liam Scales is a Republic of Ireland centre-back from Dublin who can also operate at left-back and left wing-back. He developed with Arklow Town before joining University College Dublin’s under-19 side in 2015 and making his senior debut the following year. Scales established himself at UCD, making 93 league appearances and helping the club win the 2018 League of Ireland First Division, while also earning selection for the division’s Team of the Year. In 2020, he moved to Shamrock Rovers and contributed to their Premier Division title-winning campaign. Celtic signed Scales in 2021, and after limited opportunities he spent the 2022–23 season on loan at Aberdeen, where he made 37 appearances. Returning to Celtic for 2023–24, he took advantage of a defensive injury crisis and became a regular, earning a new four-year contract in May 2024; he has also represented the Republic of Ireland.
