Münir Levent Mercan

Münir Levent Mercan is a German left-back born in Recklinghausen on 10 December 2000. He developed in the Ruhr region with PSV Recklinghausen, VfB Hüls and VfL Bochum before spending four years at Rot-Weiss Essen and joining FC Schalke 04’s academy in 2016. Schalke initially developed Mercan as a creative midfielder, and he made his professional debut in a DFB-Pokal match in August 2019, scoring after entering as a substitute. He later made his Bundesliga debut, but limited opportunities prompted a loan move to Fatih Karagümrük in August 2021. At Karagümrük, Mercan was converted from midfield to left-back and became a regular in the 2023/24 campaign. His technical passing and ability to move inside during build-up reflect that midfield background, while his defensive positioning continued to develop. Mercan joined Fenerbahçe in summer 2024 and remains part of the club’s squad. He also represented Germany at under-19 and under-20 level.
