Leon Maximilian Flach

Leon Maximilian Flach is a left-footed defensive midfielder born in Humble, Texas, on February 28, 2001. His family moved to Germany before his second birthday, and he developed with Sereetzer SV and VfB Lübeck before joining FC St. Pauli’s academy at 15. At St. Pauli, Flach played as a left-sided midfielder and left-back, building the positional awareness and defensive discipline that shaped his game. In March 2021, he moved to the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer. Flach made his debut against Deportivo Saprissa in the Concacaf Champions League and became a regular, featuring in Philadelphia’s runs to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals and 2022 MLS Cup campaign. He later evolved from a left-sided eight into a holding midfielder who protects the defence, anticipates passes and can cover at left-back. In January 2025, Flach joined Jagiellonia Białystok, continuing his career in Poland.
