Lorenz Assignon

Lorenz Assignon is a French defender born in Grasse who developed in the Stade Rennais academy after joining it in 2015. In the second half of the 2020–21 season, Rennes loaned him to Bastia, where regular football helped him gain senior experience and contribute to the club’s promotion campaign. He returned to Rennes and made his professional debut as a substitute against Rosenborg in the UEFA Europa Conference League in August 2021. Assignon later challenged for the right-back role and scored a late winner against AEK Larnaca in the Europa League in September 2022. In February 2024, he moved to Burnley on loan, gaining Premier League experience before returning to France. Rennes then transferred Assignon to VfB Stuttgart in July 2025. Primarily a right-sided defender, Lorenz Assignon also offers energy as a wing-back, carries the ball forward and presses aggressively.
