Amarilla began at Club Libertad in 2013, progressing through Paraguay's ranks. In 2019 he starred on loan at Universidad Católica, scoring 19 in 24, then joined LDU Quito to win the league in 2021. Luis Amarilla earned his Paraguay cap in 2021 against Ecuador. He moved to Minnesota United in 2022–23, appearing in 51 matches and scoring 13 across competitions. Back in Paraguay, Amarilla stays a target man who links long balls to quick finishes.
