Alhassan Abubakar

Alhassan Abubakar is a Ghanaian defender born on 25 December 1994 in Kumasi, Ghana. He developed through the University of Ghana before playing for the University of Dayton from 2014 to 2016, where he won the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year award. Columbus Crew selected Abubakar fifth overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, and he began his professional career with the club. In 2019, he joined Colorado Rapids on loan, and his performances earned the club’s Defender of the Year award in both 2019 and 2020. He then moved permanently to Colorado, where he developed into a defensive organizer and aerial presence. In 2025, Abubakar signed for FC Dallas, adding MLS experience to their back line. He has also represented Ghana at under-20 level while continuing to pursue a senior international role.
