John Victor Maciel Furtado

John, full name John Victor Maciel Furtado, is a Brazilian goalkeeper born in Diadema on 13 February 1996. He began developing at São Paulo before joining Santos’ youth system in February 2011, where he spent much of his formative career. John entered Santos’ senior setup in 2016 and made an unofficial appearance in a friendly against Benfica that October, while largely waiting for opportunities behind established goalkeepers. Seeking regular senior football, he later moved through spells with Internacional and Valladolid before returning to Brazil with Botafogo. At Botafogo, John became a prominent starter and helped the club win the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A title in 2024, while also featuring in the Copa Libertadores. His 1.96-metre frame supports his work in the air, while his game has developed beyond traditional line-saving duties into a sweeper-keeper role with an emphasis on distribution. In August 2025, John moved to Nottingham Forest, adding an English chapter to a career shaped by patience, progression and increasingly demanding competition.
