João Victor Gomes da Silva

João Gomes, whose full name is João Victor Gomes da Silva, is a Brazilian defensive midfielder born in Rio de Janeiro on 12 February 2001. He joined Flamengo's academy in 2009 and progressed to the senior side, making his debut in a Copa Libertadores match in October 2020. With Flamengo, Gomes was part of the squad that won the 2020 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the 2022 Copa Libertadores. In January 2023, he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers, beginning his Premier League career as an energetic ball-winner who also helped launch transitions with short passing. Gomes scored on his league debut against Southampton, securing a 1–0 victory while Wolves had ten men. He made his Brazil debut at Wembley in March 2024 and was involved in the squad for that year’s Copa América. Gomes is currently listed with Aston Villa, continuing a career that links Brazilian development with English top-flight football.
