James Wright

James Wright is an English goalkeeper who developed at Manchester City before joining Aston Villa as a scholar in 2020. Born on 2 December 2004, he helped City win the FA Youth Cup and U18 Premier League Cup during the 2019/20 season. After two years as a scholar at Villa, Wright signed his first professional contract in July 2022. He became a regular first-team substitute during the 2023/24 campaign and contributed to Aston Villa Under-21s’ Birmingham Senior Cup triumph in 2024. Unai Emery then included him in Villa’s senior squad for the 2024 United States pre-season tour. Wright spent 2024/25 on loan at Real Unión in Spain’s Primera Federación, making 33 appearances and keeping eight clean sheets. Standing 1.88 metres tall, he has also represented England at youth level, including the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens, while continuing his development within Aston Villa’s system.
