Jason Sean Steele

Jason Steele is an English goalkeeper from Newton Aycliffe who developed in Middlesbrough’s academy and signed his first professional contract in 2009. He represented England from under-16 to under-21 level and was part of Great Britain’s squad at the London 2012 Olympics. After more than 130 appearances for Middlesbrough, Steele moved to Blackburn Rovers in 2014. He later joined Sunderland before signing for Brighton & Hove Albion in July 2018. Initially used mainly as a reserve and cup goalkeeper at Brighton, Jason Steele became a regular choice under Roberto De Zerbi in March 2023. His distribution, composure in possession and willingness to invite pressure suited Brighton’s build-up play, while his sweeping helped protect a high defensive line. In 2023–24, he started Brighton’s first European fixture, against AEK Athens, adding a notable chapter to Jason Steele’s long career.
