John Francis Souttar
John Francis Souttar is a Scottish centre-back born in Aberdeen on 25 September 1996. He joined Dundee United’s academy at nine and made his first-team debut in January 2013, becoming the club’s youngest player to appear for the senior side. Initially used in defence and midfield, Souttar developed into a composed central defender before moving to Heart of Midlothian in February 2016. His Hearts career was disrupted by serious injuries, including three Achilles tendon ruptures, but he returned to help the club win the Championship and regain Premiership status in 2021. Souttar also made his Scotland breakthrough during this period and scored a header against Denmark in November 2021 as Scotland secured a World Cup play-off place. He joined Rangers on a free transfer in June 2022 and remains part of the Ibrox squad. Comfortable progressing possession, he combines passing ability with aerial defending and positional discipline.
