John Skahan

John Skahan is an American midfielder for the San Jose Earthquakes. Born in Memphis on February 7, 1998, he began playing in his hometown and represented the U.S. Under-16 national team. He later joined the Philadelphia Union Academy before attending the University of North Carolina, where he became a four-year starter. Across 71 appearances for UNC, Skahan recorded 12 goals and 12 assists. San Jose selected him 27th overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, and he made his professional debut as a substitute against Minnesota United in the MLS is Back Tournament that August. During his development, he also spent time with Reno 1868 FC and Earthquakes II. Skahan has operated centrally, in attacking midfield and on the wing, using energetic pressing and late runs into the box. In early 2024, San Jose re-signed him through 2025, with an option for 2026.
