Joël Pascal Schmied

Joël Pascal Schmied is a Swiss defender who operates primarily as a centre-back. Born in Bern on 23 September 1998, he developed with FC Bolligen and FC Schönbühl before entering the BSC Young Boys academy. Schmied then gained senior experience through spells with FC Rapperswil-Jona and FC Wil 1900, followed by a loan at FC Vaduz in 2020/21. At Vaduz, he scored seven goals in 32 Super League appearances, underlining his threat at set pieces and in the air. He joined FC Sion in 2021 and became a regular defender, contributing five goals during the club’s 2023/24 Challenge League campaign. In January 2025, Schmied moved to 1. FC Köln, continuing his progression into German football. Standing 1.88 metres tall, he combines physical defending with composed passing from the back and can contribute to build-up play.
