Jan Oblak

Jan Oblak is a Slovenian goalkeeper born in 1993 in Škofja Loka, Slovenia. He began playing at local club Ločan before joining the Olimpija Ljubljana academy at age ten. Oblak made his professional debut for Olimpija Ljubljana in 2009, aged 16, establishing an early senior pathway. He moved to Benfica at 17, then gaining experience on loan at Beira-Mar, Olhanense and União de Leiria. His breakthrough came in Benfica's 2013–14 season, when he displaced Artur and helped the club win a domestic treble and reach the Europa League final. Atlético Madrid signed Oblak in 2014, and he soon established himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper. At Atlético, Oblak has won six Zamora Trophies for the fewest goals conceded in La Liga, while his shot-stopping and penalty saves have shaped the team's defensive identity. He also represents Slovenia and captained the national team at Euro 2024, where it reached the Round of 16.
