Julian Niehues
Julian Niehues is a German defensive midfielder born in Münster on 17 April 2001. He developed at Preußen Münster from 2012 to 2018 before joining Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he spent two seasons with the under-18s and then moved into the reserve side. Niehues made his senior debut for Borussia Mönchengladbach II in the Regionalliga West on 12 September 2020. After leaving Gladbach in 2021, he joined 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the 3. Liga and grew into an important first-team midfielder. He helped Kaiserslautern win promotion to the 2. Bundesliga and remained a regular, starting 24 league matches in the 2023–24 campaign before an injury interrupted his season. In March 2024, Niehues agreed to join 1. FC Heidenheim on a three-year contract effective that July. At 1.95 metres, he offers a strong physical presence in front of the defence and can also cover at centre-back.
