Joshua Walter Kimmich

Joshua Walter Kimmich is a German right-back whose versatility has also taken him into central midfield and, at times, central defence. Born in Rottweil in 1995, he developed at VfB Bösingen before joining the VfB Stuttgart academy at 12. Kimmich moved to RB Leipzig in 2013 and made his senior debut in the 3. Liga that September, helping the club progress through Germany’s divisions. Bayern Munich signed him in 2015, where Pep Guardiola broadened his education and used him in defensive roles during a crisis. Kimmich established himself through his distribution, positioning and willingness to recover possession, while retaining the ability to overlap from the right. He reached Germany’s senior team before Euro 2016 and was selected at right-back for the tournament’s Team of the Tournament. During Bayern’s 2019–20 treble, Kimmich supplied the winning assist for Kingsley Coman in the Champions League final.
