Jānis Ikaunieks
Jānis Ikaunieks is a Latvian attacking midfielder from Kuldīga who developed in the Liepājas Metalurgs system before emerging with FK Liepāja. In 2014, he established himself in Latvia’s top flight and was named both the league’s best midfielder and best player. His performances earned a move to Metz in January 2015, taking him into French football and Ligue 1. Ikaunieks later sought regular opportunities through spells including AEL Larissa, returns to FK Liepāja and a brief period with Strømsgodset. He revived his form at KuPS during 2021 and 2022, helping the Finnish club win successive Suomen Cups. Since joining Rīgas FS in 2023, he has been part of league and cup success, including Latvian titles in 2023 and 2024 and the 2024 Latvian Cup. Ikaunieks also represents Latvia, adding international experience to his creative attacking role.
