Jon Gorenc Stankovič

Jon Gorenc Stankovič is a Slovenian defensive midfielder who can also operate at centre-back. Born in Ljubljana in 1996, he developed at NK Domžale and moved into senior football there before joining Borussia Dortmund’s system in 2014. At Dortmund, Stankovič gained experience with Borussia Dortmund II and continued his development in Germany. In 2016, he joined Huddersfield Town, linking up with coach David Wagner and competing in English football. He moved to Sturm Graz in 2020, where his role increasingly settled in defensive midfield. Standing 1.90 metres tall, Stankovič uses his strength, aerial ability and positional discipline to screen the defence and keep possession moving with simple passes. He has also represented Slovenia and remains part of Sturm Graz’s squad, during a period that included Austrian Cup successes in 2023 and 2024 and a 2024 Bundesliga title.
