James David Garner

James David Garner is an English defensive midfielder from Birkenhead. He joined Manchester United’s academy at seven after beginning locally, and developed from centre-back into midfield. Garner made his first-team debut for Manchester United against Crystal Palace in February 2019, but spent time on loan at Watford as he sought regular senior football. He later moved to Nottingham Forest, where his passing and set-piece delivery helped the club win promotion in 2022. He signed for Everton in September 2022, establishing himself as a versatile midfielder capable of progressing play from deep. Garner has also covered right-back for England’s under-21s and was part of their 2023 European Championship triumph. At Everton, James Garner combines defensive awareness with accurate distribution and a willingness to contribute from set pieces.
