Walter James Byrne Furlong

Walter James Byrne Furlong is an Irish left-back who developed in Dublin with St Joseph’s Boys and Bray Wanderers before joining Shamrock Rovers in 2017. He made his senior debut against Dundalk in April 2019, then moved to Brighton & Hove Albion that July. At Brighton, Furlong progressed through the academy and made his senior debut in a 3–0 EFL Cup win over Forest Green Rovers in August 2022. He joined Motherwell on loan in January 2023, making 16 appearances and supplying three assists. Later in 2023, he transferred to Hull City before spending 2024–25 on loan at AFC Wimbledon. He made 30 appearances during Wimbledon’s promotion campaign. Furlong has also represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, combining overlapping runs, crossing and recovery work with the ability to operate as a left wing-back.
