James Brown

James Brown is an Irish defender from Dublin who primarily operates as an attack-minded right-back. He developed in Shelbourne’s youth system and progressed to the senior squad, making 33 league appearances before helping the club win the 2018 Leinster Senior Cup. Brown moved to Drogheda United in November 2018, became captain in 2020 and led the side to the First Division title and promotion. In 2021, he made 34 Premier Division appearances, scored once and was selected for the PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year. Blackburn Rovers signed Brown in January 2022, and he later gained English experience on loan with Stockport County and Doncaster Rovers. He joined Ross County in 2023, making 73 appearances across two seasons, before a short spell at Kilmarnock and a return to Dublin with St Patrick’s Athletic. Brown combines front-foot defending with overlaps and low crosses, while contributing through positioning and aerial play.
