Janis Jonathan Blaswich

Janis Jonathan Blaswich is a German goalkeeper born on 2 May 1991 in Willich. He began playing at VfR Mehrhoog in 1997 before joining Borussia Mönchengladbach’s youth academy in 2007, where his father, Ludger, worked as a goalkeeping coach. Blaswich debuted for Gladbach’s second team in 2009 and signed a professional contract in 2011, but spent much of his early senior career developing away from the first-team spotlight. A 2015/16 loan to Dynamo Dresden brought the 3. Liga title and promotion, while a subsequent spell with Hansa Rostock in 2017/18 ended with sixth place. In 2018, he moved to Heracles Almelo, establishing himself as a regular Eredivisie goalkeeper over four seasons. He joined RB Leipzig in 2022 and became first choice after Péter Gulácsi’s injury, helping Leipzig win the 2022/23 DFB-Pokal. His performances earned a Germany call-up in 2023, followed by a loan at Red Bull Salzburg before he joined Bayer Leverkusen.
