Joshua Ryan Atencio

Joshua Ryan Atencio is an American midfielder from Bellevue, Washington, whose game is built around defensive coverage and midfield structure. He joined the Seattle Sounders Academy in 2016 and helped its youth teams win the 2017–18 USSDA National Championship and Generation adidas Cup titles in 2018 and 2019. Atencio debuted for Seattle Sounders FC 2 in 2018, signed a professional USL contract the following year, and joined the Sounders’ first team as a Homegrown Player in June 2020. He made his senior debut during the MLS is Back Tournament and became part of Seattle’s 2022 CONCACAF Champions League campaign. On 8 April 2023, Atencio scored his first MLS goal with a long-range strike against St. Louis City. He later moved to the Colorado Rapids, where he returned to a defensive-midfield role. Atencio has represented the United States at under-15, under-17, under-23 and senior levels.
