Júnior Osmar Ignacio Alonso Mujica

Júnior Osmar Ignacio Alonso Mujica, born 9 February 1993 in Asunción, Paraguay, is a left-footed centre-back known for his height, pace and tactical discipline. He developed with Cerro Porteño, breaking into Paraguay's top flight around 2011–2012 and establishing himself as a dependable defender and leader. He moved to Europe in January 2017 with Lille, spent a loan at Celta Vigo (2018) and a loan at Boca Juniors (2019–2020) where he won a domestic title. In 2020 he joined Atlético Mineiro in Brazil, contributing to a Série A and Copa do Brasil double in 2021, and serving as captain. A later move to FC Krasnodar followed in 2022, before returning to Mineiro on loan and then permanently through 2026. In mid-2026 he joined Atlanta United on a free transfer in MLS, continuing his career as a commanding left-sided centre-back. Internationally, Alonso has been a core pillar for Paraguay, earning over 75 caps and representing the national team at the 2026 World Cup. He is praised for strong aerial and ground duels, excellent defensive positioning, and vocal leadership to organize the back line, particularly on the left side.
