Iván Villar Martínez

Iván Villar is a Spanish goalkeeper who developed at Celta Vigo after moving from Rápido Bahía CF to the club’s academy in 2008, aged 11. At 16, Iván Villar made his senior debut for Celta’s reserve side in a Segunda División B victory over Cultural Leonesa. He reached the first team and made his La Liga debut on 14 May 2017, appearing in Celta’s 3–1 defeat by Alavés. After injuries to other Celta goalkeepers, he became the club’s first choice in 2020–21, appearing in 21 league matches and recording five clean sheets. Seeking regular football, he spent the 2021–22 season on loan at Leganés in the Segunda División. Back at Celta, Iván Villar was again called upon in 2023 after Agustín Marchesín suffered a season-ending injury, and his performances earned him the Estrella Galicia Player of the Month award. His international involvement has included Spain’s under-21 setup and the squad for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
