Hugo Guillamón Sanmartín

Hugo Guillamón Sanmartín is a Spanish centre-back from L’Eliana who developed at Valencia’s Paterna academy. He joined the club at five, progressed through its youth ranks and made his senior debut for Valencia Mestalla in 2017. Guillamón made his Valencia first-team debut in February 2020, replacing the injured Eliaquim Mangala against Real Sociedad, and established himself in La Liga. Under José Bordalás, he also moved into a defensive-midfield role, contributing to build-up play while retaining his reading of defensive spaces. In 2021, Guillamón scored on his senior Spain debut in a friendly against Lithuania. His performances earned selection for Spain’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and he reached 100 La Liga appearances in 2023. His career has combined centre-back development, midfield versatility and international recognition.
