Mario Hermoso Canseco

Mario Hermoso Canseco is a Spanish centre-back born in Madrid in 1995. He developed in Real Madrid’s academy before joining Real Valladolid on loan for the 2015–16 season, playing primarily at left-back. After moving to Espanyol, Hermoso established himself in central defence while retaining the ability to cover wide areas, helping the club qualify for the Europa League. Atlético Madrid signed him in 2019, and he became an important defender under Diego Simeone. Hermoso helped Atlético win the 2020–21 La Liga title, contributing to a side that combined defensive organisation with a more possession-based approach. A left-footed distributor, he can progress play with vertical passes and operate in a back three or back four. He later moved to AS Roma and made his Spain debut in 2018.
