Hugo Vandermersch
Hugo Vandermersch is a French right-back born in Blendecques. He developed in US Boulogne’s youth system before moving to Stade Malherbe Caen’s reserves in 2017. After signing his first professional contract with Caen in 2019, he made his Ligue 2 debut in a draw with Niort. Vandermersch then became a regular for Caen, recording more than 100 league appearances and playing 34 matches in 2022/23. He joined SV Elversberg on loan for the 2023/24 season, gaining experience in Germany’s 2. Bundesliga. In September 2024, he moved permanently to FC St Gallen, where he continued as a regular and featured in the 2024/25 UEFA Conference League campaign. Primarily a right-sided defender, Hugo Vandermersch has also covered at left-back and centre-back when required.
