Hamza Mendyl

Hamza Mendyl is a Moroccan defender, primarily a left-back or left wing-back, born in Casablanca on 21 October 1997. He developed in Wydad Casablanca’s youth system before joining Morocco’s Mohammed VI Football Academy. Mendyl began his senior career with Lille, making his Ligue 1 debut in February 2017. In August 2018, he moved to Schalke 04 on a five-year transfer and later continued his development through loan spells at Dijon, Gaziantep and OH Leuven. At Leuven, he added greater attacking involvement while continuing to operate from the left side. Mendyl represented Morocco at senior level from 2016 and was included in the squads for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and 2018 FIFA World Cup. Now associated with Volos NFC, Hamza Mendyl brings recovery pace, an aggressive approach to defending and experience across several European leagues.
