Henry Bonello

Henry Bonello is a Maltese goalkeeper born in Pietà on 13 October 1988. The son of former Malta goalkeeper John Bonello, he developed in the Sliema Wanderers youth system and made his senior league debut for the club against Marsaxlokk in April 2007. He later played for Vittoriosa Stars and Hibernians before joining Valletta, where he made more than 100 appearances and won multiple league titles. In July 2021, Bonello moved to Ħamrun Spartans, becoming a key defensive presence and later captaining the side. For Malta, he made a decisive penalty save against the Faroe Islands in a 2019 European Championship qualifier, helping secure a first competitive home win in 13 years. In 2025, he scored for Ħamrun with a long-range clearance against Naxxar Lions. Standing 1.86 metres tall, Bonello combines experienced shot-stopping with authority in the penalty area.
