Gabriel Batista de Souza

Gabriel Batista de Souza, commonly known as Gabriel Batista, is a Brazilian goalkeeper born in São Gonçalo on 3 June 1998. He developed at Canto do Rio and Audax Rio before joining Flamengo’s academy in 2014. Promoted to Flamengo’s senior squad in 2017, Gabriel made his professional debut against Volta Redonda on 17 January 2018. He was part of the Flamengo squad that won the 2019 Copa Libertadores and travelled to that year’s FIFA Club World Cup, although he generally served as a reserve. Seeking regular football, Gabriel moved on loan to Sampaio Corrêa in early 2022 and later joined Portugal’s Santa Clara on a permanent free transfer in August. At Santa Clara, he developed from a deputy into a regular starter, combining his 1.90-metre frame with aerial claims, shot-stopping and distribution from the back. Gabriel Batista is currently listed with Botafogo, adding a new chapter to a career that began in Flamengo’s academy and expanded into senior football abroad.
