Gunnar Vatnhamar

Gunnar Vatnhamar is a Faroese centre-back who developed with Víkingur Gøta, progressing from the club’s reserve side into senior football. He spent the bulk of his first decade at Víkingur Gøta, where he also operated in midfield before increasingly moving into defensive roles. During that period, Vatnhamar helped the club win Faroese Premier League titles in 2016 and 2017, alongside domestic cup honours. In April 2023, he transferred to Víkingur Reykjavík in Iceland and established himself as a central defensive anchor. With the Reykjavík club, he won the Icelandic Cup in 2023, the Super Cup in 2024 and Besta deildin titles in 2023 and 2025. Vatnhamar made his Faroe Islands debut in March 2018 and scored his first international goal against Lithuania in November 2020. His midfield background supports composed distribution from the back, while his central defending, aerial presence and positional versatility have shaped his role for club and country.
