Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson

Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson is an Icelandic central midfielder born in Reykjavík on 8 September 1989. He developed with FH and Breiðablik before joining Reading’s academy in England in 2005, later gaining senior experience on loan at Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra. Sigurðsson broke through at Reading in 2009–10, scoring 20 goals from midfield, and moved to 1899 Hoffenheim in 2010. A loan at Swansea City in 2012 preceded his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, while his return to Swansea in 2014 established him as a leading Premier League creator. Everton signed Sigurðsson in 2017, where he contributed from midfield and set pieces during a four-year spell. For Iceland, he helped reach the Euro 2016 quarter-finals and played at the 2018 World Cup. In 2024 he joined Valur before returning to Icelandic football with Víkingur Reykjavík.
