Gaël Bigirimana
Gaël Bigirimana is a Burundi international midfielder born in Bujumbura in 1993. He moved to the United Kingdom as a child and developed in Coventry City’s academy, signing his first professional contract in 2011. Bigirimana was named Championship Apprentice of the Year for 2011–12 before joining Newcastle United in 2012. After his time at Newcastle, he returned to Coventry City, initially on loan and then permanently in 2016. He scored Coventry’s opening goal in the 2017 EFL Trophy final, helping the club defeat Oxford United 2–1. Bigirimana later played for Motherwell and Hibernian before moving to Tanzania’s Young Africans in 2022, where he won the league title. He is now with Dungannon Swifts, while his international career includes England Under-20 involvement and helping Burundi reach the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
