Federico Nicolás Varela Escudero

Federico Nicolás Varela Escudero is an Argentine midfielder born in Buenos Aires on 7 May 1996. He developed in Spain after beginning with Viveiro CF and completing his youth formation at Celta de Vigo. Varela moved into senior football with Stade Nyonnais before joining FC Porto, where he played for the reserve side and helped it win the Segunda Liga in 2015/16. A loan to Portimonense preceded his return to Spain with Rayo Majadahonda, where his creative midfield work earned recognition in the Segunda División. In 2019, Varela joined Leganés permanently and later spent a season on loan at Las Palmas. He subsequently played in Turkey and joined CSKA Sofia, helping the Bulgarian club win the Bulgarian Cup in 2021. Varela is now part of Floriana’s squad, offering experience as an attacking or wide midfielder.
