Francisco Gabriel Ortega
Francisco Gabriel Ortega is an Argentine defender, primarily a left-back, born in Santa Fe on 19 March 1999. He developed in Vélez Sarsfield’s academy from 2013 and made his senior debut in November 2017. In that first-team introduction, Vélez defeated Olimpo 3–0, with Ortega providing two assists. He established himself at Vélez, making 154 appearances and helping the club reach the Copa Sudamericana semi-finals in 2020 and the Copa Libertadores semi-finals in 2022. In August 2023, Ortega moved to Olympiakos Piraeus, beginning his European career in Greece. He started the 2024 UEFA Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina as Olympiakos won the competition, then was part of the club’s 2024–25 domestic double. Ortega also represented Argentina at the Tokyo Olympics, where he was sent off against Australia in the opening match.
