Frenkie de Jong
Frenkie de Jong is a Dutch central midfielder born in Arkel on 12 May 1997. He developed at local club ASV Arkel before joining Willem II’s academy, where he made his professional debut in May 2015. Later that year, de Jong moved to Ajax and first gained senior experience with Jong Ajax, earning the Eerste Divisie Talent of the Season award in 2016–17. At Ajax, he showed his versatility by operating as a ball-playing defender before establishing himself in midfield. In 2018–19, de Jong helped Ajax win the domestic double and reach the Champions League semi-finals, while also receiving the Eredivisie Player of the Season and UEFA Champions League Midfielder of the Season awards. Barcelona signed de Jong in July 2019, and he has continued to develop as a deep-lying playmaker and progressive passer. He also represents the Netherlands at international level.
