Francis Joseph Coquelin

Francis Joseph Coquelin is a French midfielder born in Laval who developed with AS Bourny Laval and Stade Lavallois before joining Arsenal as a teenager. At Arsenal, Coquelin initially debuted at right-back and gained experience across several roles. Loan spells with Lorient, SC Freiburg and Charlton Athletic exposed him to different tactical demands before Arsenal recalled him in December 2014. He then established himself as a disciplined defensive midfielder, using interceptions, pressing and well-timed challenges to protect the defence and recover possession. Coquelin helped Arsenal win the FA Cup in 2015, including the final against Aston Villa. He moved to Valencia in 2018 and won the Copa del Rey in 2019 before joining Villarreal. With Villarreal, Coquelin won the UEFA Europa League in 2021, continuing a career built on ball-winning, positional discipline and simple distribution.
